WONDERWORK is an intimate view of Chati Coronel’s creative process. It is a look into the spirit and philosophy that drives her art. With original artworks, text and design all from the artist, the magazine format is reimagined as an object of affection. As art itself. Meant to be kept and cherished as a slice of this space in time. Most of the pages used in the design of WONDERWORK stand on their own as mixed media works on paper. For this maiden issue, Chati experimented with ink, masking tape, construction tape and packing tape on paper. These works are artifacts in their own right, made by a pair of human hands, marking our spot in a time of glossy screens and artificial images. Just like the real, printed matter of this physical magazine, these original works on paper are available here. Touchable realness that will be shipped in real space, taking real time to arrive at your doorstep, into your hands.

WONDERWORK isn’t your regular magazine. Art comes through Chati the way air is blown through a wind instrument. The shape the work takes depends on the shape of that instrument. Just as her Unstruck Sound series was made specifically for a book and other printed matter (more on that later), Chati has taken on the magazine format as a new instrument. It merges her love for painting, poetry and graphic design into an accessible art unit that can be multiplied and sent out like seeds of light into the world.
Each page is made of mixed media works of art on paper layered with graphic design and the artist’s own words, her own contemplations about the forces that drive the work. The full interweaving of these elements will be seen in WONDERWORK and the art used for those pages is now made available here. Made of ink blocks and shapes and scribbles with masking tape, packing tape and construction tape on paper, these pages celebrate the glorious imperfection of human strokes on real matter. Echoing Chati’s Word Paintings and Be The ___ series of works, her new WONDERWORK pages contain her boldness and conviction.
Each work on paper is a one-of-a-kind original and accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Works are shipped unframed, packed flat between rigid boards, with tracking, from Canada.
Prices are in Canadian dollars. Shipping is calculated at checkout. For orders to the United States, shipping includes the current 50% U.S. import duty on Canadian-made artwork, so there are no surprise fees at your door. Buyers outside Canada and the U.S. may be charged import taxes or duties by their country on delivery.

AWAKE
A limited edition artist book featuring images of paintings and texts by Chati Coronel. A continuation of her Word Paintings, first exhibited at Silverlens in 2018, Coronel's book explores the intersection between painting and poetry. Using "the term 'poetry' loosely to describe a compilation of insights originally composed, within the 140-character limit, for her Twitter account, she creates these word-arrangements and paints them into 100 self-portraits on paper."
