Inner Constellation 1:30AM
What I thought would be a study in darkness became a celebration of all the hidden light around us. Light never leaves you. It is the true nature of all things. We only have to make better eyes or better hearts to see.
Inner Constellation 5:30AM
20 years ago we went on a nine-day road trip for our wedding. With just a couple of friends in a convertible, we started from Vancouver and went to The Grand Canyon to meet up with the Justice of the Peace who consecrated our marriage. It was sunrise when we exchanged our vows and my heart felt wide like the expanse of space I depicted in this painting. It has the a feeling of, not just space, but outer space. A sunrise, a wedding. This is all about hope.
Inner Constellation 9:30AM
The Inner Constellation series draws its inspiration from an art therapy exercise where 9 paintings are made to depict the passing of time from a 5:30PM pre-sunset scene to a 9:30AM post sunrise painting. It is done to move one’s consciousness through a transition event. Done at the tail end of 2021 while the world still suffered through a pandemic, I felt that I had to do this exercise as an attempt at “world-therapy”. The series culminates with my 9:30AM painting where we harvest strange fruits. I feel that the gifts we receive from this time will be unrecognizable. They are shape-shifting and we need to keep our hearts and minds open to what form they will take next, or we will miss these gifts altogether. It reminds me of the “Manna from Heaven” bible story. This painting comes with a vastness. A long, slow, deep, joyful breath. Divine providence all around.
CELESTIAL DATA FOR DAYDREAMING
From ancient Egyptian mysteries right through to today’s space expeditions, my deep dive into studying the Cosmos began with a desperate investigation into the apparent connection between my daughter’s seizures and the phases of the moon. Several years later, my exploration has bloomed into a profound search for human purpose and healing.
Using the power of art to connect thousands of years of human evolution through the propagation of myths, I sought to create my own mythical representation of cosmic forces through 7 paintings representing the “Classical Planets” of Ancient Astronomy. Taking cues from Greek mythology which portrays the qualitative forces of the planets as gods and goddesses, my intention has been to infuse life into abstract astronomical data through new form embodiments representing these cosmic forces.
Celestial Data for Daydreaming aims to bring home the physicality of the cosmic forces by reminding us that we have the physical experience of sunrises, sunsets, seasons, tides, and time because of the earth’s relationship with the Sun, the Moon and the cosmos. It reminds us that each one of us is an active physical participant in an alive, harmonised dance of forces.
